Life of Pi (2012) Movie Story Plot -

Life of Pi Book - Yann Martel
“Life of Pi” is the story of Piscine Molitor Patel commonly known as Pi, a boy living in India who embarks on a journey of self discovery set off by unpredictable and horrific events. Before getting to those tragic events, however, the film begins with a writer, played by Rafe Spall (“Prometheus”), sitting down to interview an older Pi, played by Irrfan Khan. The writer is looking for a story idea for a book and has been told that Pi will tell him a story that will make him believe in God.
Pi tells him the story of how he grew up in India and how he himself questioned life and the existence of God from an early age. His parents own a zoo, which among its many animals has a Bengal tiger, named Richard Parker. A young Pi (Suraj Sharma) along with his family set off on a Japanese cargo ship to go to Canada after his father got a good job in Canada. But in an unfortunate incidence, the ship got capsized during a storm, leaving Pi as the lone human survivor.
Pi manages to find salvation aboard a lifeboat in the company of a zebra, a hyena, an orangutan and the vicious Richard Parker, his Bengal Tiger. Alone at sea for a staggering 227 days, Pi and Richard Parker come to depend on each other, both for survival and for company.
Of course, Pi’s story is hard to believe, not only for the writer but also for the investigators of the freighter company who interview Pi at the end. When they find implausibility in his fantastical story, he offers up a slightly more believable version that is more horrific and tragic than the shipwreck itself. It leaves the investigators and the audience to question what really happened to Pi.
