Palani Thai Pusam Festival


In Palani Sri Dhandayuthapani temple, 10 day Festival (Brahmotsavam) is held during Thai Pusam. The important dates are listed below
16-Jan-2014 - Thursday - Thirukalyanam - Velli Ratham
17-Jan-2014 - Friday - Thaipusam - Therottam (Chariot, Car Festival)
18-Jan-2014 - Saturday - Thanga Guthirai Vahanam (Golden Horse)
19-Jan-2014 - Sunday - Periya Thanga Mayil Vahanam (Golden Peacock)
20-Jan-2014 - Monday - Theppotsavam (Float Festival)

Many devotees will wear saffron or green clothes, undertake Paada Yatra, take Kavadi, Paal Kudam (Milk), Pierce Spear (Alagu Kuthuthal), Shave their Head (Put Mottai), do Angapradakshinam


Pujas in Other Temples:


- In Chidamabaram (Thillai) Panchamurthi Veedhi Ula, Thirthavari, Thaandava Darsanam Aarthi will be held on Thai Poosam

- In Madurai Sri Meenakshi Amman Temple, Sri Meenakshi Sundareshwarar Theppotsavam will be held at Mariammam Theppa Kulam

Sri Ramalinga Swami became Jothi on this day. To remind this Jothi Tharisanam is held in Vadalur Temple. 

- In Mylapore Kapaleeswarar Temple, 3 Day Theppotsavam will be held during ThaiPusam Pournami.

- Special pujas, Jothi Darshan will be held at Melmaruvathur Adi Parasakthi Temple during Thai pusam.


Pujas in Lord Muruga Temples:


Special Abhishekam will be done to Lord Muruga Moolavar and Uthsavar with milk, curd, panchamirtham, tender coconut, sandal, paneer, honey, thiruneer, panchakavi, fruit juices and other diraviams amidst the chanting of vedas. 

Special alankaram like Santhana kappu, Thanga kavasa Kaapu, Raja Alankaram, Poo Alankaram will be done to Lord Muruga. Lord Muruga Utsavar will come in procession in the mada veethi's of temple and bless devotees.

Lakhs of devotees will throng Lord Muruga Temples especially Arupadai Veedu Temples. Devotional hymns will be sung accompanied by the playing of percussion instruments in temples.
