India’s very own cricket fantasy league rolls out on 3rd April, 2013

In the forthcoming week, the nation will witness the most glamorous sporting event
of the year. IPL, the nation’s very own cricketing league, in its 6th season, opens
amongst all razzmatazz. Starting from 3rd April, with a match between Kolkata Knight
Riders and Delhi Daredevils
, the league will uphold almost 76 matches in the season,
all the way till 26th May, 2013.

Going by the tradition of IPL, the winning team gets to host the opening match in
their city. Therefore, with the fortunate win of KKR in IPL 2012, the team will get
to open as well as close the cricket matches in Kolkata.

Talking about the opening ceremony, we will have none other than the team owner,
Shah Rukh Khan, perform live, in front of thousands. He will set the stage on fire
with actors Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif. Pitbull, the famous Hollywood rapper,
will also be seen dazzling the stage for the ceremony. For the opening gala, a
humongous crowd of 1, 20,000 are expected to turn up at the Salt Lake stadium,
Kolkata on 2nd April!

IPL has been constantly in the news for all its glamour, glitz and not to mention,
the high profile auctions. In the midst of all the frenzy, caused by the auction of
players during the start of the year, the IPL now boasts of holding 37 new players,
from a bag of 108. The total cost came around $11.87 million, including the $1
million dollar worth Glenn Maxwell, the Australian all rounder.

Post the exit of Deccan Chargers five months ago, the league is now left with only 9
teams to participate. In place of the DC, there will be Sunrisers Hyderabad playing
this year, along with Delhi Daredevils, Kings XI Punjab, Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata
Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians, Pune Warriors India and
Chennai Super Kings.

In terms of freshness, the 6th season of IPL seems to be having several newbies.
These are not just to the tune of new players, or new teams, but new sponsors as
well. Yes, replacing DLF in the contract, PepsiCo now takes up the sponsorship of
IPL, for the next five years, ending 2017.

In addition to this newness, the league also faces some amount of political unrest
down south. This is with respect to the political turmoil and angry protests,
between the Sinhalese and Sri Lankan Tamils in Tamil Nadu, because of which the IPL
will not allow the Sri Lankan players, to be a part of matches in Chennai. The ban
came soon after Jayalalitha, the state chief minister, demanded the same in her
letter to the Prime minister.

With all these new changes, let’s see how the 6th season of the IPL fares. At least
as of now, all we can say is that the next two months will be all about the IPL and
its host of wins and misses.

With Ravi Shastri, Sanjay Manjrekar and Rameez Raja doing the expert commentary and not to mention the spicy extra innings, the show, along with the matches are
definitely going to keep us on edge and the atmosphere, simply electric! Share your Views, Reviews, Comments and Suggestions  on
